Silver Creek Middle School offers semester courses for grades 6,7, and 8.
Digital Art 1-3
This is a one semester course with an emphasis in computer art. Following the National and Maryland State Standards, students will explore the Elements and Principles of Art while utilizing the software programs Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Students will complete some of the coursework in their sketchbooks and other sources in addition to computer use. Students will also develop their writing skills and vocabulary in order to describe and write about their own artworks as well as the artworks of others. We will be working together in order to develop our skills as artists.
Studio Art 1-3
Studio Art introduces students to art materials, creative processes, and vocabulary. Creativity, critical thinking, and communication are strengthened throughout the course. Students review fundamental skills needed for design, drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and ceramics. Paintings are personalized with a specific viewpoint and color scheme. Design units allow students to experiment with drawing materials and the elements of shape and color. Printmaking and sculpture units reference global culture and integrate personal symbols. A ceramics unit teaches student basic hand building techniques to create a free standing form.
